When a congregation participates in the Church Health Assessment for their church, a unique survey link is created for the entire membership to complete. Once the participants complete the survey, all data is collected and compiled into a report under the watchful eye of our Director of Research. The 32-page report will then be presented to the church, first to its leadership team, and then to the full congregation. A trained CHA consultant meets with the leadership team of the church (usually on a Saturday) to interpret the results and explore what might be next for the church in light of the report. To also share the results of the assessment with the entire congregation, the CHA consultant utilizes a Sunday morning Bible class hour to share the report with the congregation. The Siburt Institute believes it is important for the congregation to review the instrument results they have been asked to participate in and be prayerful for the church’s leadership as it seeks to utilize the results to further its mission.

Testimonials

"Our congregation was in a unique situation in that we didn’t have any major conflicts, but rather that we simply needed assistance in determining where the Lord was leading us. The Siburt institute (along with their Church Health Assessment) not only provided us with an instrument to collect data, but also the ability to help discern what that information meant for us. As a result of their visit, we have a renewed passion and understanding of who we are and where God is directing us. We are extremely grateful to the Siburt Institute for using their knowledge and passion to minister to our leaders and members, and highly recommend them to both struggling and healthy churches."

"The CHA was suggested to our elders as part of the process we went through (are going through) to determine if we really knew our congregation, what our strengths and weaknesses were and to put together a plan to lead us through the next 5-10 years. The CHA was very helpful in the information that it delivered but also in that it gave the congregation an opportunity to express their thoughts, hopes and dreams, opinions- good and bad, about any and every area or function of the congregation. Although we did not get any earth-shaking revelations (we weren't expecting any!), many members just appreciated the opportunity to participate in the CHA. Needless to say, Barry Stephens was very helpful!"

"We partnered with the Siburt Institute when we were in the middle of replacing our Senior Minister of 25+ years and our assimilation minister of 21 years. This transition was challenging, to say the least, however, Siburt was a God sent to help set our new direction. One of the first tools we used was the Church Health Assessment. (CHA). This tool allowed the congregation to speak openly and honestly to the leadership and gave the leadership a clear perspective of where the body was. The CHA consultants have been so instrumental in guiding our current shepherds and staff to reset our church to follow God's direction for our future."

"Over the past year we have had the privilege of working with the Siburt Institute. Overall, this process has been very insightful, uplifting, and positively challenging as we have worked through a long period of transition. One of the tools we have been able to utilize through this process was the Church Health Assessment. From the perspective of a minister, it is often difficult to understand how a collective group of people feel about the various ministries we have and how they feel about the overall status of our church. This tool not only allowed our congregation's collective voice to be heard but also gave us the opportunity to dissect the data in a way that pointed us toward our areas of strength, growth areas, and directed us to our next steps. I would very strongly recommend this tool for any church desiring to evaluate and grow in their ministries as they work to join God in His work."

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Typical practice is for the CHA instrument to be open for two weeks, encompassing three Sunday mornings for the church to make announcements, encourage engagement, aiming for over 50% participation from the worshipping congregation. Following the closure of the survey link, the results will be compiled in ten days. At that point, the leadership team will have conferred with the Siburt Institute to schedule a weekend visit with a CHA consultant to review the results.

  • The CHA is a standard instrument that is not available for edits and additions. In light of the results, the consultant may encourage specific next steps to retrieve further learnings specific to the congregation’s interest.

  • The Siburt Institute encourages the leadership of the congregation to take action from the learnings of the CHA. This will be further outlined by the consultant during the face-to-face visit. However, some options include further consulting, deploying a listening project or focus groups within the congregation, or strategic planning by a team of trusted leaders.
